TiVoCast: TiVo Inc. to bring web based videos on television
TiVo Inc has said that they would soon launch a service, which would let their users access Web video on regular television sets. They are currently working on closing in on deals with media companies.
TiVo already has a service named TiVoCast, which has signed up deals with CBS Interactive, Reuters Group Plc and business magazine Forbes. TiVo provides shows directly to the TV sets of TiVo subscribers from these content providers.
The company said that subscribers would soon be able to download and watch shows created for CBS’ Web sites on their own TVs. This would be one of the many steps they are taking to avoid losing customers to digital recorder services offered by regular cable TV operators in the market.
Subscribers of TiVo can already access online digital content from outlets including The New York Times, CNET, and Rocketboom on their television sets. TiVo Chief Executive Tom Rogers added his views: “Broadband video is growing rapidly on the Web, but the television will continue to be the key way viewers want to watch video.”
