Sprint Nextel to use Microsoft mobile search technology
US based mobile service provider Sprint Nextel has said that they would soon be incorporating Microsoft’s Mobile Search technology on their mobile phone products.
This deal is Microsoft’s most significant move to gain a U.S. foothold in the mobile search market which is expanding at a fast pace in the country.
In addition, customers of Sprint would also soon find Microsoft’s Windows Live search bar at the top of Sprint’s menu page while accessing the web through their mobile devices.
They would be able to search for news, sports scores and ringtones within the carrier’s own mobile portal. In addition, they would also be able to search outside of Sprint’s network for other information.
As part of the deal signed between the two companies, Sprint and Microsoft would be sharing the revenue from advertisements placed alongside Windows Live search results. This deal is expected to help Microsoft take on Google and Yahoo! in the mobile search market.
