Chevrolet Spark might be M3X and not Matiz

Chevrolet Spark might be M3X and not Matiz
Daewoo Matiz fans (like me!) have been waiting for this car since a very long time. It was disheartening to see such a wonderful car losing grounds to Hyundai Santro and the likes just because of the poor marketing strategy of Daewoo. And in the later days, the company just went down badly and was sold to GM of the United States.
GM has in turn planning to launch that small bubbly car again in India where it lacks a small car to sell in big numbers. And it is planned for a 2005 launch under the brand name of Chevrolet Spark. And reports in media say that instead of releasing the updated version of Matiz, which had Porsche styled headlights, they are considering launching a slightly bigger model codenamed M3X.
It should be using the same 1 liter engine that powers Matiz in other markets and would provide a potent weapon to GM to compete with local manufactures like Maruti Zen, Wagon R and of course the market leader Santro. By then we should also have Suzuki Swift, while Hyundai Getz is already here. For them, GM plans to bring in Chevrolet Aveo.
Great year to look forward to…

Even I’m a fan of Matiz. Its disappointing to see that GM is not realizing the value of small cars like Matiz in India.
GM has a winner in the Matiz or M3X or Spark its time they woke up and cater to this growing small car segment.Wishing GM and Spark all the best in their retake in india.
[...] new launches in Suzuki Swift and maybe Suzuki APV. They are going to face competition from GM’s new cars in Spark and Aveo under the brand name Chevrolet.

M3X , even if launched would be in a higher segment if it is launched in the same form that they showed in Paris auto show coz it is certainly going to be more expensive. I believe they should launch Chevrolet spark with both the 0.8L(same as matiz) as well as 1L before launching M3X if they want to be in the volume game as mentioned by their top officials. In 0.8L category people have no much choice in india, but is still the number one segment. By doing so, they will even get a ready market for spares for the over 1lac matiz cars(most of it would would be interchangeable with matiz in india). In fact in europe they have already promised the matiz owners that they would continue to get serviced by chevrolet workshops. BTW I am great fan of Matiz.
GM is only playing game with India, they try to push it their other small cars in india. but they can easyly import matiz in india and sale it, like other countries.but we know when this Economical car will be In India, other brands will be dropped .
I don’t think GMI would like to associate itself with Daewoo (though GM does). GMI always had a poor marketing strategy and they have already said no-no about matiz so many times… When they are eventually gonna launch matiz II (which is slighly different from matiz we know) people would definitelly come to know that this is the old matiz with a new name and bow tie… How they are going to cope up at that time only god knows..
Better, they should have associated themselves with Daewoo and provided the existing daewoo customers the guarantee of the spares.. they would have captured a huge market…
But I think, GMI people are going to be small time players (These people are so ignorant that they came up with an ad campagn for their corsa in a German phrase…!!)
I m sure that Matiz is a great car and it will be a pleasure to see General Motors India launch this car in India with whatever brand/name.Am sure it a CLEAR winner. Can you price it like Rs. 300,001 like Santro clebration for 3 days?
I think Chevrolet spark in 0.8L and 1L before would be a great hit in the INdian market. Any date line for its launch ??? Teh sooner the better…

I am waiting for the relaunch of Matiz/Spark/M3X the moment they launch it the next day they will have my order. Waiting for the good omen …..
When is the GM Co. going to launch Chevy Spark (800 C.C) car. I am a owner of Matiz. Will I get all the spare parts of matiz later.
Hey Manish no worries. GM I hear is finalising all plans to launch Matiz here in India though it will be a different one than the one that was sold in India. I feel GM being such a big manufacturer cannot forget about the huge customer base for Matiz. Under all probabilities GM will do the parts business for Matiz.
Any idea if control unit on 0.8 and 1.0 is the same?
JCR did you mean the ECM? I think it is different as the ECM will be reprogrammed to meet Stage III.
I got my wife the Matiz in ‘99, and one of the best buys I’ve ever made! She loves it and so do I. Only “coplaint” I have is that the shocks on this car “cost a fortune” in South Africa!! A set of rear shock costs more than 2 NEW tyres! Maybe only in South Africa that 1 si being “ripped off” and NO-WHERE else in this “civilised world”!
I WAS TO BUY A CAR IN 2004 BUT POSTPONED IT HEARING THAT MATIZ IS COMING BACK IN EARLY 2005 BUT NOW ALMOST 1/3RD YEAR HAS GONE AND THERE IS NO NEWS OF MATIZ/M3X LAUNCH IN INDIA. CAN SOME ONE TELL ME WILL IT REMAIN AS A DREAM OR IT WILL TURN INTO REALITY ANY I WILL BE FORCED TO GO FOR ZEN D OR SANTRO. PLEASE GUIDE….
Hi…It would be a wonderful event when the cute matiz is back in india with the slightley modified looks. As far as Daewoo Motors is concerned, It had remained a fact that only the marketing strategy of Daewoo International had been so bad that it had affected their automotive companies as well. The cielo or the matiz was of extraordinary built up quality. They were the first imported cars to be launched in india. If you have a detailed look at cielo, one could easily understand that the engine used in a cielo is 90% same as that of an astra…Any guesses why..Because all these engines are imported from Holden Australia which is again owned by GM. so finally we know GM is the baap of all…Of course the daewoo matiz was a product which was indigineously developed by daewoo and it was known for the best mileagae on road under heavy traffic condition. I would expect these products to be back soon. wishing GM the best
chevrolet should lauch spark or spark as soon as possible
Hi cute orphaned car Matiz will be back with new parents in India….I hope this time there will be no marketing failures. All the best to existing / waiting / dreaming customer for Matiz may be with different name.
When is the GM Co. going to launch Chevy Spark
Eagerly waiting for the launch of MATIZ !! this car ’s unique design turn’s off heads on road !! Matiz will bring freshness in th market and will beat all other cars like Alto, Zen etc . Launch it as Indian market is ready to go for it !! buyers waiting!! And if launched @ three lakhs , all units will be sold within minutes!! MATIZ is a Very attractive car!!
gm come fast with spark it will spark the car market and indian hearts who will love to ride the same with a different spark than other smalls
i am anxiously wating for “SPARK”. when it will spark? i am postponing my date of purchase of new car since 2004. i go to sentro showroom to purchase a car but then i think of spark and comes out for spark. WHEN YOU ARE COMMING SPARK?
I am also a proud owner of Matiz. GM will beat the market with new Spark / Matiz / M3X with a little bit of marketing care and good ads. Matiz is a dream car. V love it. Hope V get services and Spares with new Spark / Matiz / M3X for our old cars.
long waiting of matiz could gain a good market 4 GM.
i am a proud owner of a matiz car. the relaunch of matiz(in whatever name) should be done at the earliest.it is a owner a owners pride and neighbours envy.hip hip hurray for the relaunch. i am sure, GM will take care of the existing matiz owners(the Ambassadors for relaunch).
Matiz is fine car I would not hesitate to buy new model if it released
like all matiz owners my loyalities are with this cute car. It will be wonderful to see “spark” launched in India. At least then no body can then say “Hey you are driving a car whose company has no futute”. It is doing well in south africa where incidently indica has also been launched.
It is high time for GM to take over Dawoo India and relunch Matiz as Matiz with/out changes. Undoubtedly, the passion for Matiz is ever high even after all odds.
Long waiting for New Mtiz launch and i hav also heard GM is launching Aveo this year .

matiz lasting 15 years? that is a challenge! :)
matiz is a fantastic car,i proudly own the car,the other small cars in india is nothing in front of this car….
Why there is a delay in introducing Chevrolet Spark in India, Is it tactical delay by the GM, sothat they can introduce their brand of cars? . Let the management give an explanation.
i would like to buy a second hand matiz, but which are the commonest complaints that this car has and which are the parts that need frequent changes?are there spares or their equivalents in the indian market specially karnataka?
well the only problems would be spare parts. the company is dead mate!!!

Hi
I am thinking of buying a usd Matiz, Advice me should I go for this or should I take a used Maruti 800 car.
Tell me which would be a wise decision
a used matiz is not a good investment considering spare parts are not easily available.
I bought a Second Hand Matiz Car. I think spare parts are available in India.
matiz is extremely stable and noiseless at high speeds if compared to the copetition. gear is bit disappointing if compared to zen.the new matiz will be a big hit with new look and engine.new dashboard is extremely fresh.

I don’t think GM should enter the mid size / small car segment. They have no strengths here, and will suffer. With the Optra, they seem to have hit a winning formula. Me-too’s without genuine core competency backing them, have rarely succeeded.

Hi,
I’m thinking of buying a used Matiz, as its availble with good comforts compared to an used Maruthi 800 at lower price.
I’m worried if there is a problem in getting the spares, or are the spares too costly….
Present Users of Matiz, Pls feel free to suggest me.

I am a gr8 fan of Matiz. What a car it is! after 5 years, I am still getting average of 15kmpl in city which anyday better that that of cars like Santro, Gets etc.
GM must lauch Spark (which is improved Matiz) to capture indian small car market. I am confident that GM will be the market leader after lauching of Spark.
Excellent car. I do not like to drive any other car after driving Spark. My uncle bought Zen but I am not comfortable dirving it. no one can beat Matiz.
Matiz is the most facinating car I have never seen even in this digital arena with monthly a new car launch senario.
Matiz is the most facinating car I ever seen even in this digital arena with monthly a new car launch senario. With great looks, best mileage (Both within City/Outside city,
Strong body, low maintainence.
The problem they have faced earlier was, there was no company trained service facility other than dealer network. So, it was long waiting period for service and insufficient stock of spares.
Upon loosing my company given car, I bought WagonR, but there is nothing comparable practically in any segment with Matiz when compare with value for money.
I am eagerly awaiting relaunch of Matiz by GM, to buy on my own.

I would like to hear the news of ‘Spark’ launch in India.I own Matiz(SG) 2001 Jan model, which I am planning to sell it off and thinking to go for Wagon R or Swift. If was know the Launch date of Spark I will definetely postphone my decision. I can wait for another year too.with the present car the A/c compressor has failed and not able to get new one.
Even there’s a problem with exhaust pipe(silencer) it gets rust soon.this should be taken care by GM.
I bought the Matiz SG in 2000 and was a proud owner of an awesome car. I was hopefully waiting for GM to revive the Matiz - which did not materialize, I had to unfortunately sell the Matiz this Feb [06], only because of its highly depreciating price. I now drive the Alto, which I just hate - the Alto is JUST SO CRUDE when compared to the Matiz. The minute the Matiz/Spark is put up for sale in Goa, I will just DUMP the Alto and grab the Matiz/Spark.
I m eagerly waitin 4 d launch of Chevrolet Spark!!!!!!!!!
It was a realy cool car known 4 its mileage.
Hi,
Really Matiz is a fantastic car. It’s driving is like anything which I can’t explain it. Without knowing driving, I just purchased the car and trailed the driving environment for just half an hour and I directly entered high way and drove back to my Home place which is 200 Kms. Really it’s an adventure in my life. It’s thrilling…….
After that I had experienced many cars to drive … Indica, Zen, 800 .. but the driving is not so good compared to that of a Daewoo Matiz… Really it’s so good. Even the car very much spacious which we will not imagine looking it’s cute shape. It is more spacious than all the small car’s in the Indian Market…….Presently my Matiz is giving 18Kms. in long drives …….
Hoping all these will be in Chevrolet Spark and with a little bit improvement in the mileage too ……
I am looking to exchange my Old Matiz with New Spark if all sets…

I booked a Spark 1.0 b on 20/10/07. Since then I am waiting and waiting for delivery. The dealer in Guwahati says delay is due shortage in supply for the production unit. The dealer is not even giving me a fixed date of delivery. I do not know what to do now…
