Brazil gets the first shipment of USD 100 laptops
South American nation Brazil has become the first nation to get their supplies of the 100-dollar laptops under the ambitious One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received the first laptop of this project and as many as 50 units are to be tested in Brazilian schools beginning this week.
The first unit was handed over to the president of the country by Nicholas Negroponte, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is also the founder of this project.
He is now due to visit Thailand to discuss the implementation of their project in this country. The initial units of this laptop are costing them around USD 150 but the cost is expected to decrease with the increase in production.
