Google settle disputes with Belgian news media companies
Search engine giant Google has finally managed to reach an agreement with two groups representing authors and photographers in Belgium.
These groups had filed a lawsuit in court claiming that Google had no right to publish their content on their news websites without taking their permissions.
The agreement has been signed with two groups named Sofam and Scam and this is the first step in resolving the disputes which forced them to remove content featured from French and German language Belgium newspapers.
A company representative said in a statement on the new development: “We reached an agreement with Sofam and Scam that allows us to make extensive use of their content.”
As per available information Google would be able to make use of their content beyond what copyright law allows though the company declined to reveal the financial aspects of their agreement.
