BladeSymphony: Hitachi to take on IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems with Blade server products

Hitachi America has said that they now want to become a bigger player in the Blade server market. The company would be taking on existing players in the market including IBM, Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems.

The company is rolling out a new blade server in the US market named BladeSymphony and it comes equipped with virtualization software embedded in the system’s firmware.

Hitachi America is also offering the customers choices between Intel’s dual-core Xeon “Woodcrest” processor and dual-core Itanium chip. They had first launched this product in their home market of Japan and these are expected to become available in North America starting in January.

A company representative added that they plan to offer the new blade through direct sales at first and then moving it through its channel. And they might even add an Intel’s quad-core processor to its server line in the near future.
