T-Mobile gets Nokia and Ericsson to build their 3G network

T-Mobile has proven that they are serious about their commitment in the US market as they have just signed on a contract with Nokia Oyj and Ericsson AB build their 3G network in the country.

The contracts are worth around $2.76 billion and these investments would help T-Mobile compete with the giants in the market including Cingular, Verizon and Sprint Nextel.

The company has already been posting impressive growth numbers and aims to become a major provider of GSM services in the country.

T-Mobile had bid nearly $4.2 billion in September for spectrum for the launch of their 3G services in the United States. They aim to make this network available by next year. Nokia and Ericsson would be providing the company with a W-CDMA powered infrastructure, which can be upgraded to powerful HSDPA architecture in the future.
