Nokia and Motorola to fight it out in emerging mobile markets

Market analysts have predicted that the mobile market would see a slower growth next year. This means that mobile phone makers would have to concentrate on expanding in the growing mobile markets like China and India for growth in the near future.

Nokia itself has forecasted 10% global unit sales growth for cell phones in 2007. The company estimates that the sales would reach around 970 million cell phones units next year.

The third quarter of the current year saw sales growth of an impressive 21.5% worldwide as per data made available by Gartner.

Motorola is increasingly becoming a bigger threat to Nokia’s cheaper phones sold in the emerging markets especially in India. Randy Giusto, an analyst with research firm IDC spoke about these two companies: “Nokia’s emerging-markets strategy has been to focus on entry-level phones. Motorola is trying to take the success of its Razr, the buzz factor around Razr, to gain share with ultrathin models at a lower price point.”
