China might require bloggers to get ID to blog
The Chinese government is considering getting the internet users in the country to register with them if they want to blog on the internet.
Users might be told to provide their real names and ID card numbers when they start a new blog. This is due to the fact that the government believes that anonymous blogging encourages widespread libel and slander.
However, there is some hope considering that bloggers would still be allowed to blog under fake names as long as they register their actual information with the government.
The country has one of the repressed internet accesses and government tends to censor free media on the web. The blockage of Wikipedia has made big news in the recent weeks and if this new mechanism is implemented, we would hear more about it.
