AMD launches Quad FX dual-socket, multicore desktop platform
Microprocessor Company AMD has launched their Quad FX platform, which would take on a similar platform launched recently by market leaders Intel.
AMD said that their dual-socket, multicore desktop platform is designed to take full advantage of Microsoft’s Windows Vista. Microsoft recently launched their latest operating system release for the corporate sector. A wider launch is slated for January next year.
This platform is suitable for people who run multiple high-performance and power consuming applications at the same time.
Market analysts believe that this platform is a stopgap for AMD that would let them address the demand in the market while they work on the real native quad-core x86 release slated for mid next year.
AMD’s Quad FX platform is powered with pairs of the AMD Athlon 64 FX-70 series dual-core processors.
