Microsoft losing market share in Internet Search market
Software giant Microsoft has invested hugely in improving their search engine technologies as they aim to displace Google as the world’s most used search engine service.
However, reports are claiming that the company is suffering a steady decline in market share over the last 12 months. In comparison, Google continues to post a steady growth in its usage by web users around the world.
Microsoft recently replaced MSN Search with Live Search and the falling popularity has been noted in figures released recently by three Web metrics firms: ComScore Networks, HitWise, and Nielsen/NetRatings.
Bill Tancer, general manager of global research for HitWise added about Google’s improved performance in their reports: “it’s very possible it could be at the expense of Microsoft.”
Market analysts believe that one of the many reasons is the brand confusion amongst the users who are now shown a Live Search service instead of the usual MSN Search service. The interface changes every now and then and there is too much experimentation going on.
Adam Sohn, a spokesman for Microsoft’s Windows Live group added: “Over the last nine months, we focused intently on bringing Live Search from beta to final version. With our search experience now in the right place for widespread consumer use, we are just beginning the execution of our broad marketing strategy, as well as building strategic partnerships that we expect will expand and grow our user base over time.”

Translation: We released it before it was ready. We had to really fanny around with it to get it working properly. We now think it is. We hope to get more users in the future by twisting some arms.
Enough of the complete management bollocks utterances from Microsoft. In my company he’d be sacked just for breathing.
