Sony is now shipping BDP-S1 Blu-Ray Disc Player
Japanese consumer electronics major Sony has announced that they have now started shipping its first dedicated Blu-ray Disc player, the BDP-S1 model.
It would be made available for sale for around $1,000. It is available at Sony Style stores in the US, online at sonystyle.com, and at authorized retailers across the nation.
Sony said that this player is capable of playing both high-definition Blu-ray Discs and the traditional DVD discs.
Randy Waynick, senior vice president of marketing for Sony Electronics’ Home Products Division spoke on this launch event: “I’m thrilled that it’s here just in time for the holidays. Combining a Sony 1080p HDTV set and our new BD player with an HDMI-enabled A/V receiver and surround sound speakers provides the epitome of the high-definition lifestyle.”
Sony BDP-S1 outputs 1920 x 1080p (progressive) high-definition video, which is the highest resolution HD signal currently available through an HDMI connection.

About

The real question is - can I hook this up to my Denon receiver and play any blu-ray disk on it ? I really want a high definition player… to go with all my recently purchased hardware… but i have compatibility concerns. Until I’m sure, by dollars are staying in my pocket. Beta verses vhs all over again, is not giving me the warm and fuzzies… I bet wrong last time.
