Toshiba announces a 1.8-Inch 100GB Hard Drive
Japanese tech giants Toshiba have announced a new 1.8-Inch 100GB Hard Drive. This means that hardware developers now have resources to develop portable music and video players with higher capacities. We might even see a new iPod Video featuring this hard disk in the coming months.
With this drive, Toshiba has practically gained a 25 percent jump in storage space over current models. Current models in this form factor offer a maximum of 80 Gigs of storage space.
Toshiba said that they are planning to begin mass manufacturing of this hard disk early next year. Most of these disks are not sold in the retail market but are directly supplied to hardware manufacturers. They would be displaying this product at the Consumer Electronic Show.
We should see this product featuring in notebooks and portable music players by the middle of next year. Considering Toshiba is making the Zune player for Microsoft, a 100 GB Microsoft Zune 2 sounds quite probable too.
