Qualcomm happy with Mobile TV to Cell Phones tests in UK
Tech giants Qualcomm has said that they have successfully conducted tests of mobile TV broadcasting in the UK on British Sky Broadcasting handsets.
The company said that they have conducted the tests over a period of 2 months and they have seen that 20 channels can be supported to deliver “very good” picture quality at 25 frames per second using their MediaFLO service.
Qualcomm added that these tests have also shown that the MediaFLO System can operate in both laboratory and mixed field test situations.
Robin Crossley, technology strategy advisor for BSkyB added: “This was a thorough test of the technology’s capabilities, yielding encouraging results.”
Qualcomm is already preparing to launch this service in the United States in partnership with Verizon Wireless. They are also talking with KDDI and Softbank in Japan to launch a similar service in that market.
