ATI losing ground to rival NVIDIA
AMD recently completed their acquisition of the graphic card company ATI. However, incoming reports state that this acquisition has been damaging for ATI at least in the initial stages.
Jon Peddie Research has said in a note that ATI Technologies Inc. lost ground in every major graphics product category during the third quarter compared to rivals NVIDIA.
This acquisition also puts them directly in competition with one of their partners Intel that competes with AMD in the PC microprocessor market.
ATI’s PC graphics market share has gone down 5 percentage points in the third quarter to 23 percent. They however continue to retain the second spot in the market.
They also suffered big time in the mobile market. ATI’s share of the segment fell to 47 percent in the third quarter. NVIDIA now dominates this market with a 53 percent share in the market.
