Baidu.com launches a blog search engine for Chinese web users

Baidu.com is already the leading search engine service in China and they have now announced the launch of a blog search engine.

This service is designed to help their users to search through the blog posts made by 20 million Chinese bloggers. Interestingly, this is the first Chinese search engine specifically designed to index blogs.

Yu Jun, a senior executive with Baidu said that their database is built on index of billions of websites and it includes the blogs supported by Chinese blog service providers and individual blog websites.

A survey conducted by the company claimed that the country has around 19.87 million bloggers and they maintain around 52.6 million blogs.

    Mission
Roboo is a search engine for cell-phone users to enjoy wireless mobile contents and services.

    Background
Roboo targets at the mass consumer wireless mobile value-add services market in China, which has the largest user base of cell-phones in the world. In 2005, China had more than 400 million cell-phone users.

    Value Proposition
Roboo’s core technologies are in advanced algorithms for deeper content processing, analysis, classification, categorization and real-time implementation in a grid architecture. The algorithms process billions of content items for millions of end users. Good items are organized for desirable consumption, while bad ones are filtered out.

    Differentiation
Roboo uses “search engine grid” technologies to build a distributed grid architecture that reduces disk access and network traffic, and optimizes matching among user profiles, requests, and contents. The algorithms embedded in our systems can self-learn from large-scale distributed long-term historical observations and user behaviors to evolve automatically and can thus become more and more intelligent. The real-time search engine grid architecture and the intelligent analysis algorithms make Roboo best meet users’ intents and stand out from software or cluster-based search solutions. The sophisticated development skills and large-scale operations for billions of content items and millions of personalized users have built a high barrier to entry – “Roboo was not built in a day”.

The word “Roboo” indicates an intelligent service robot.
