SMS traffic to double in the next 3 years
British market research group Gartner has said in a research report that the text messaging traffic would more than double in the next three years.
The traffic is expected to touch 2.3 trillion messages sent by 2010.
Last year saw transmission of almost 936 billion messages through SMS services provided by mobile operators around the world.
The revenues from this industry are also expected to grow to $72.5 billion in 2010 from $39.5 billion in 2005.
The report said: “By far the most messages will continue to be sent in the Asia Pacific region, where Gartner predicts the level of SMS messages will top 1.8 trillion in 2010. Wireless messaging is the most successful mainstream mobile data service to have emerged during the 30-year history of the cellular telecoms industry.”
