comScore Media Metrix: MySpace.com overtook Yahoo! in November

Research company comScore Media Metrix has said that online social networking portal MySpace.com overtook internet giants Yahoo! in terms of web traffic last month.

As per their statistics, News Corp.’s MySpace recorded 38.7 billion U.S. page views last month, compared with 38.1 billion for Yahoo Inc.

MySpace.com registered a 2% growth in November compared to the previous month. It is seeing triple the traffic registered in the same month last year.

This is just another indication of how social networking websites are becoming more popular on the internet.

However, the research group said that Yahoo! might have suffered this traffic dip due to expanded usage of new technologies like Ajax which prevents complete page reloads.

Yahoo spokeswoman Nissa Anklesaria responded on this report: “Yahoo continues to be the overall Web audience leader with the largest number of unique users and most time spent online. The page view change in November is related to the use of Ajax and other Web 2.0 technologies across the Yahoo network. These technologies enhance the overall user experience, but do not either generate a page view or qualify to be counted as a page view while the user is engaged with the product.”
