China to work hard on controlling online copyright infringement

The Chinese government has now signed on a memorandum of understanding in Beijing with four US and British industry associations.

The government would now work hard on controlling copyright infringement in the country.

The participating agencies would be providing the government a list of products that they wish to see protected. They would also be handing over information about piracy cases that they detect.

Xu Chao, the director of the administration’s copyright department said in a statement on this development: “China now has the world’s second largest number of Internet users. Therefore it is important to promote the awareness and understanding of the public that using pirated publications is wrong, and this is one of the reasons for the signing of the memorandum.”
