Bill Gates admit DRM is cumbersome
Microsoft founder Bill Gates has admitted that the current DRM technologies are too complicated for regular users and they are better off purchasing music CDs and ripping the music from them for listening on computers and portable music players.
Interestingly, Microsoft just recently launched their own digital music player named Zune which comes with its own DRM technology supported by the Zune marketplace.
Gates admitted that Digital Rights Management “causes too much pain for legitimate buyers” trying to distinguish between legal and illegal uses. Though he did not say how Microsoft aims to remove these hassles in the future.
Interestingly, eMusic is one of the rare stores which sell music in DRM free MP3 format and they are the second most popular digital music store on the net in the USA.
