Matsushita Electric to begin mass production of a new lithium-ion battery

Japanese tech giant Matsushita Electric has said in a statement that they are soon going to start mass production of their new lithium-ion battery which is not prone to overheating problems which led to a recall of the Sony batteries powering notebooks.

The company said that they began producing the new batteries in April and will ship them in large quantities by the end of this year.

These batteries are increasingly becoming an alternative to the popular nickel-cadmium batteries. These are smaller and lighter and they also hold charges for longer periods of time.

This makes them perfect for portable digital devices like digital cameras and laptops.

These new generation of batteries are likely to be expensive than current generation of batteries supplies with notebooks.
