General Motors India launches Chevrolet Aveo U-VA to take on Maruti Swift

US based General Motors has launched an attack on India’s dominating automaker Maruti by launching their latest product Chevrolet Aveo U-VA.

Chevrolet Aveo U-VA would take on Maruti Suzuki Swift and the base model of the car is priced at exactly the same price of the Swift LXI model at Rs. 3.99 lakh.

The other cars in the segment include Hyundai Getz, Tata Indica and Fiat Palio.

Maruti has been quite successful with Swift in India as it dominates this segment in India. They sell around 5000 units of Swift per month compared to just around 1,300 units of Hyundai Getz.

GM is benefiting from the government’s policy of low taxes on cars with up to 1.2 liter engine. Swift has a larger engine thus could not gain tax concessions on this ground.

GM is aiming at sales of 20,000 units of this car per year. Rajeev Chaba, president and managing director, General Motors India added on this: “We will not launch the diesel variant of U-VA until the end of the next calendar year.”

The UV A is a smooth car. The price on road in Mumbai for the UV A is 6 lakhs plus for the top model, what a diference from your price!!

I guess all the three cars ie Swift , Getz and UVA are great .. Commenting on either technology wise will be immature as i have done a pretty good homework on the three cars and spoken and read a lot of engine experts .. I still feel that the experts working in these companies would anyday be more intelligent than the critics .. becuase i guess very few people would actually understand the technical intricate details .. Mileage being the same (almost) what matters is the price difference . You can still save a good saving of 50 to 75 K on a UVA compared to a swift or getz. rest all go then on who likes the look of what.

The maruti being a domestic company era has gone … even a swift cannot be repire by a roadside machanic. I t is prettty complicated for small town mechanic to figure out what is happening. same with a hyundai or chevrolet. the small mechanic is restricted to maruti 88 only .
