Samsung showcases 80 nm 1 GB mobile DRAM

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has showcased a one gigabit mobile dynamic random access memory chip. They have made this chip using the 80-nanometer process technology and claims that this is the first chip of its kind in the world.

Samsung is planning to use this memory module in advanced phone handsets as well as for digital still cameras. In addition, it could also find its way into other devices like portable media players and portable gaming products.

Samsung claims that the 80nm technology helps the chip to consume less power. The company claims that this chip reduces power drain in devices in standby mode by up to 30% compared to current generation chips.

They plan to start the mass production of this chip from the second quarter of 2007.
