South Korea chooses their first two astronauts

The South Korean government has announced that they have picked up two people who would become the country’s first astronauts.

Ko San, a researcher at the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, and Yi So-yeon, a doctoral candidate at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology are the two lucky people chosen for this ordeal.

These two would undergo intensive tests and training in the coming months with the aim of becoming the first South Korean astronaut.

These two were selected from a group of 36,206 hopefuls who submitted applications from April through July this year. The announcement was confirmed by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

However, only one of these two would travel on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft to the International Space Station in April 2008.
