Toyota considering Vios sedan for India
Toyota is nearing the milestone of becoming the world’s largest automaker. However, they have a relatively smaller presence in the Indian market.
Domestic rivals Honda are doing very well in India with their range of cars available here. Now, Toyota plans to enter the mid-size sedan segment by launching the Vios car.
Market sources say that Toyota is seriously considering placing Vios in the segment consisting of models like Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Ford Fiesta and soon-to-launch Mahindra Renault Logan.
The company has officially refused to confirm this rumor. Toyota Kirloskar deputy MD KK Swamy said: “As a matter of policy we don’t discuss future models.”
There were talks about them launching Fortuner SUV in India. However that seems to be put on the backburner at the moment considering it is not a very high volume segment in India.
Toyota developed the Vios car for the South East Asian market and it is sold in markets including Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and China.
