Apple iTunes was most wanted this Christmas

Web statistic company Hitwise has come out with a report on the net traffic to major sites this Christmas. The company reported that the Apple iTunes digital music and video store was much in demand as the traffic to this website was up 413 percent on Christmas Day 2006. This percentile is in relation to the traffic on the site last year on the same day.

This could be connected to the popularity of Apple iPod players on online and retail stores. A lot of new fresh iPod owners must have visited the store to see what they can buy and download to play on their iPods.

In fact, Apple iTunes web store was the fourth most visited website in the Hitwise Retail Index on Christmas Day 2006.

Hitwise further reported that the market share of visits to Zune.net showed an increase of 1,030 percent on December 25, 2006 versus the previous week. Apple however continued to show their domination on this scale as they saw a traffic boost of 1,222 percent in the same period.

Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at Hitwise said in a statement: “For the third holiday season in a row, the iPod has been the must-have Christmas gift. Competitive offerings have not yet succeeded in capturing the attention of music listeners, and the surge in visits to the Apple Store shows that iPod owners are also engaged in filling and accessorizing their new devices.”
