Microsoft aiming to show effective personalized advertising on the web
Software giant Microsoft has said that they have begun linking users’ search habits with other personal information as they aim to show better and more personalized advertising on the web.
This means the company would monitor the activities of users on their own websites and show related advertising on their services.
The company would use this information to build a profile for a certain class of users and sell targeted ads for these groups to their advertisers.
They are not the first one to go ahead with such personalization. Yahoo! and other major advertising companies already use cookies to monitor user activities to deliver targeted advertising.
Microsoft had originally rolled out the behavioral targeting technology in early September. They found that behavioral targeting increased by as much as 76 percent the likelihood a visitor would click on an ad
