YouTube failed to install any content identification system

We are already in a brand new year and YouTube.com has failed to fulfill the promise of putting in place a content identification system.

This failure could put Google in a tough position to secure more deals with the players from the media and entertainment industry.

Youtube.com had promised in September that they would place such a system on their service before the end of the year.

This technology was supposed to make it easier for the operators at YouTube.com to find copyrighted music or video on YouTube.

YouTube had said in a statement that tests of the system had been under way with some media companies since October 2005. Mike McGuire, a digital media analyst at Gartner however had some warnings for the company: “The technology industry really has to start living up to the media industry’s expectations. If the delay lasts for more than a week or two into the New Year, suggesting more than just a slight technical hitch, this is certainly going to be a serious issue.”
