Lycos suffer outage, back online now

Online portal Lycos went offline for sometime on Tuesday. The search engine service blamed the downtime on their Internet service provider.

The downtime meant that their service users were without access to e-mail and other services for that period. The problem occurred when construction workers accidentally damaged the systems of Savvis (ISP).

Savvis confirmed in a statement that they had problems with connectivity but they did not give out any details on how many customers were affected by it.

Kathy O’Reilly, a spokeswoman for Lycos said: “This was a 100 percent connectivity problem with Savvis. We contracted with them for 99 percent of our hosting and network services, and they guaranteed their service. This was a major failure on their part.”

In fact, the backup systems of Lycos are also handled by Savvis.
