One Laptop Per Child to start mass production of the USD 100 laptop from third quarter this year
One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) organizers have said that they aim to start the mass production of their USD 100 laptop from the third quarter of this year.
This laptop would be sold at around USD 150 in the initial stages as the group expects the cost to come down further in the coming years. They aim to touch a price point of USD 100 in the near future.
The early plans of the group were to start the mass production within 2006 itself. However, the plans were delayed as they failed to secure enough orders from developing nations. India is one of the major targeted markets which has refused to order these laptops.
OLPC project is aimed at providing these low cost computing machines to children in developing nations.
These machines are going to be manufactured by children in developing nations.
