Novell NetWare users get Microsoft’s Offer

With Novell concentrating on Linux more and more, many NetWare consumers might be facing dilemmas on where to move on for future needs. And Microsoft plans to get some of these customers to move to Windows Server 2003.

They have announced a scheme where they would pay part of the transition costs for companies moving from NetWare to Windows Server. The offer is up to USD600 per server and can be availed up to USD15000. For this, the company would have to but at least 50 client-access licenses per server.

Novell claims that this is not a new tactic and Microsoft has been targeting their clients for quite sometime now. They would be releasing a product in February, known as Open Enterprise Server, which would combine the power of NetWare and Suse Linux. Microsoft has been also on offensive against Linux with Steve Ballmer sending the now very famous mail to the subscribers with certain points on Linux, which the Open Source Community clearly finds offensive and untrue.

Novell on its part setup a website claiming to dissect the Microsoft’s claim and telling what they does not want the world to hear.
