SanDisk launches a 32GB flash drive for notebooks

SanDisk has launched a 32-GB Flash drive for use in laptops and notebooks. The company claims that this drive is smaller, safer and faster than traditional hard disks.

This drive uses the same technology used by storage solutions in digital music players. It has no moving parts so it is reliable. It is also faster on access speeds compared to regular hard disks.

However, the drive is currently not on sale as the company has not revealed a price point for it. However, SanDisk said that this drive could add $600 to the price of any notebook using it.

Samir Bhavnani of Current Analysis spoke about this product: “The new 32-GB Flash drive that SanDisk is offering is important because the price premium that customers will pay for a Flash drive has dropped substantially from when Samsung announced its 32-GB drive earlier in 2006.”

At that time, the price of such a drive was close to USD 1000.
