Quake results in as many as 10,000 expired domain names in China
Xinhua wire service has reported that the China International Network Information Center (CNNIC) has said in a statement that the Chinese web users lost access to as many as 10,000 domain names due to the recent quake in the region.
The earthquake damaged undersea cables off the coast of Taiwan last month and this caused disrupted broadband services in several Asian countries.
The web users lost these domains because they failed to renew the service in time due to lack of connectivity. Xinhua reported: “Because the domain names are lost due to an act of God, enterprises and individuals involved may be appropriately compensated by the domain name server, but the scheme is still under discussion.”
The news report further said that the access would be completely normal in the region by January 15.
