Yahoo! to open up its market search to all mobile users
Internet’s most popular website Yahoo! is likely to offer its Web search software straight to mobile phone users. The company would as a result bypass the need to collaborate with service providers to customize the service as per their usage.
This was reported in a news item by the Wall Street Journal. The report further said that the search engine company would be making available software which the mobile users can download themselves from the net and use it to access Yahoo! services.
Yahoo! is expected to give out more details on this rumored information at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
With this, they aim to get an upper hand over their prime rivals Google which is increasingly expanding the scope of their market by tying up with mobile service providers around the world. Google just last week went into a related collaboration with the largest mobile service provider in China, China Mobile.
Yahoo! is also likely to expand their collaborative efforts with mobile phone makers including Nokia and Motorola. These companies could pre-install Yahoo! applications on their cellphones to help them access their services more efficiently.
