More on Apple iPhone
Apple’s new iPhone is truly capable of changing the way we look at mobile phones. The company has done the unthinkable. The iPhone looks fantastic from any angle you look at it.
Apple iPhone brings the capabilities offered by multiple devices like the iPod itself, a mobile phone, a digital camera and a portable computing machine.
The device features an Apple technology named “Multi-Touch” and allows it to work using a single button. Rest of the features are accessible using fingers. No stylus needed!
The phone has a 3.5-inch, 160 pixel-per-inch display which the company claims is the best in class.
More incredibly, the device comes loaded with the Apple’s own OS X. It has fully Apple iTunes integration and can sync the data from the Macs and PCs.
Steve Jobs said that the device can sync data including music and videos from iTunes, contacts, calendars, photos, notes, bookmarks and email accounts from the user’s desktop machine.
The Apple iPhone also features a 2-megapixel camera. A 3 megapixel camera would have been awesome but it still is a great add-on.
Apple has included headset jack, 3.5-millimeter audio jack, SIM tray, a “sleep-wake” switch, speaker, microphone input and an iPod dock connector on the 11.6-millimeter thick iPhone device.
Apple iPhone is essentially a quad-band GSM + EDGE phone and comes with Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth 2.0 capabilities. Jobs confirmed that they would add 3G capabilities in the future.
The phone also includes a proximity sensor which shuts down the display when the phone is near the ear to save on batteries. A light sensor would keep changing the monitor contrast to suit the surrounding. And an included accelerometer would decide what mode the phone’s display should work… vertically or horizontally. Excellent!
Apple has added a visual Voicemail feature which allows the user to skip to the voice mail they want to hear. No more wasting time hearing the non important ones!
User can do a voice conference by using simple controls on the display. Text messaging has been made easier by implementing iChat like features. Users can switch between these SMS Chats!
The phone features the full fledged Safari Browser. Users can see regular web pages instead of checking out the WAP versions. Google Maps is fully supported so are other tools from both Yahoo! and Google.
The phone has a functional email client featuring support for both POP and IMAP protocols. Apple is working with Yahoo! to provide push mail to all iPhone customers. This feature itself could make the phone a Blackberry killer.
Apple would sell the phone in two models. A 4 GB model would sell for $499 while the 8 GB model would retail for USD 599. However, this would be applicable for users going in for a 2 year contract with Cingular which is going to be the exclusive U.S. carrier for Apple iPhone in America.
Apple would launch the iPhone in America in June, in Europe later this year and in Asia in 2008.
