Microsoft releases Avalon Preview
Software Giant Microsoft released a community technology preview of the next generation presentation subsystem of their upcoming operating system Longhorn. This release came out on Friday and is planned to get feedback from the developers on its applicability on the already released operating systems Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
The release was made in the Microsoft Developer Network better known as MSDN. Initial reports from Microsoft had this technology planned only for the Longhorn version, but later the company decided to support XP and Windows server as well. Nevertheless, this would not be coming until 2006, which is also the planned year of release for Longhorn.
Avalon incorporates the latest XAML technology developed by Microsoft on XML platform for building presentation-layer and user-interface technology. This release came in addition to release of CTPs for SQL Server 2005 and the upcoming Microsoft framework.
