Apple iTunes to offer Sundance Film Festival movies
Apple Inc. would be selling the movies being featured at this month’s Sundance Film Festival on their iTunes digital store.
These movies would be made available under a deal announced Friday. These would accompany the free streaming at Sundance’s Web site.
These movies would be offered at the store for three years and once purchased will play for at least the life of the owner’s computer.
John Cooper, the Sundance Institute’s director of programming spoke about this program: “Streaming on our site is not the same as owning, and there seems to be a world out there for both.”
Sources said that the makers of these films would get bulk of the amount from the $1.99 download price. Rest of the money would be shared by Apple, the Sundance Institute and cable television’s Sundance Channel.
Cooper added: “What Sundance is really known for is as a platform for people to sell their films, and that’s mainly the feature film. We didn’t want to really interfere with that yet.”
