AOL to provide music services through Napster
Time Warner’s internet division AOL has said that they would now be using Napster as their exclusive online music subscription service provider.
Interestingly, Napster had recently said that they were considering selling their business operations. This AOL deal helped them at the stock market as their share prices gained.
Napster would now be replacing AOL Music Now which already has around 350,000 paying subscribers.
Napster Chief Executive Chris Gorog added: “We’re still involved in multiple conversations.” He did not give out further details.
The company is one of the many competitors of the Apple iTunes store which dominates the digital music market. Microsoft recently became a rival with their Zune marketplace.
AOL had been using Circuit City Stores Inc.’s online music service which they acquired a couple of years ago as their AOL Music Now service.
