Apple sure to get access to iPhone name in legal battle with Cisco
It is a well known fact that Cisco owns the trademark to the term iPhone since many years now. Analysts had said that if Apple launches a mobile phone in the market it is unlikely to be called Apple iPhone.
However, things got complicated earlier this week when Apple showcased their mobile phone product and said that they would indeed call it the Apple iPhone.
The next day, Cisco filed a lawsuit against the company claiming their trademark over the term iPhone. Apple has now said that they are confident of winning access to this name for their mobile phone product.
Natalie Kerris, Apple’s Director of music public relations said on this issue: “We think Cisco’s trademark lawsuit is silly. There are already several companies using the name iPhone for VOIP products, and we believe that Cisco’s US trademark registration is tenuous at best.”
Kerris added: “We are the first company to ever use the iPhone name for a cell phone, and if Cisco wants to challenge us on it we are very confident we will prevail.”
