Diesel Sonata: Hyundai India on the offensive
Hyundai is not having a nice time in the Indian automobile market in the recent months. Their recently launched Verna has impressed the critics but failed to generate the much needed sales. Getz is being dominated by Suzuki Swift and the newly launched Chevrolet U-VA is further going to complicate things for them.
Maruti has just launched their Zen replacement named Zen Estilo which is aimed to take away the sales of their Santro car. Hyundai Elantra has also failed to impress the buyers.
When the Hyundai Sonata was launched, it was one of the most impressive cars in its segment. Over the years, things have changed with the entry of Honda Civic. Skoda already has a best seller in the form of Octavia and Laura in this segment.
Hyundai now has a potent tool in the form of the just launched Sonata Diesel to generate the much needed sales from this segment of the Indian automotive market.
This diesel version of Sonata has been priced at Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and the company expects to see majority of the future sales for this version. We are also likely to soon see the launch of the diesel version of the Hyundai Getz.
