HD DVD group gets the support from the Adult Film industry

Sony and Toshiba are heading the two groups promoting their own next generation storage format. Sony is the force behind the Blu-Ray format while Toshiba has their own HD DVD format.

Sony has somewhat in lead when it comes to support from the major movie studios around the world. However, HD DVD has apparently found some support from the adult film industry which could benefit it massively in the coming months.

Wicked Pictures is one of the leading names in the adult film industry and they have just launched their first movie on the HD DVD format. They are not alone; Digital Playground Inc. is also due to release their first title on this next generation storage format.

Several other companies in this industry have also said that they would be launching movies in the HD DVD format.

Jake Richter, an analyst at Jon Peddie Research spoke about this trend: “If Blu-ray isn’t adopted by the adult industry, then HD DVD will win out.”

These companies believe that they are somewhat supporting the Toshiba’s format because of the lower production costs and better technology support. Jackie Ramos, vice president of DVD production at Wicked Pictures added: “It’s a lot less expensive to use HD DVD.”
