Apple targets website promoting skins mimicking Apple iPhone
Apple just recently showcased their upcoming mobile phone iPhone to the media and fans. However, the phone would not be launched in the market before June.
This inspired some creative programmers to develop skins mimicking the user interface of the iPhone for existing smartphones present in the market.
These skins just used the icons from the Apple iPhone interface for the Pocket PC and Palm smartphones. Apple was not impressed and they decided to go ahead and send cease and desist letters not only to the writer of the skin, but bloggers who linked to the downloads of the skins.
The company claims that they have the copyright over the design and the icons used in these themes. The posts showcasing the themes are gone so are the official download links. However, it is pretty clear that considering the skins have been released on the internet; people will find a way to get their hands on the required files.
And Apple gets the benefit of this expanded controversy surrounding their upcoming iPhone.
