Japan could cancel their delayed moon probe mission
Japan’s space agency has said in a statement that they are recommending canceling the already massively delayed unmanned mission to the moon.
This is the latest setback to the country’s ambitions to explore the final frontier.
The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has now planned to cancel their Lunar-A mission. This mission was planned to explore the moon’s origin and evolution using a module to land on its surface.
The project’s manager Takashi Nakajima said in a statement: “The mother ship was built 10 years ago and over the years it has been deteriorating, and it has come to a point where it can no longer be used. Instead of refurbishing the mission’s mother ship or building a new one, we made a recommendation that we would like to pursue other possibilities. We do not want to build another similar space craft.”
The final decision on the fate of this ambitious lunar project would be taken sometime next month.
