Softbank has nothing on Apple iPhone yet
Softbank Corp. has declined to reveal whether they would be collaborating with Apple Inc. to launch their iPhone mobile phone in the Japanese market.
Interestingly, the Apple iPhone as shown by Steve Jobs at the launch ceremony lacks the technology to make it work in the Japanese market.
As a result, they are likely to get into collaboration with a domestic mobile service provider in the country to launch the phone in this market.
Even the RIM’s Blackberry device could not be launched in Japan until the time RIM moved into a partnership with NTT DoCoMo Inc.
Softbank Chief Executive Masayoshi Son admitted in a statement that bringing the Apple iPhone in the market in its current form “wouldn’t work because the telecommunication system is different.”
Son is said to be a good friend of Apple CEO Steve Jobs and it is also rumored that he was present at the launch ceremony of the Apple iPhone.
