Yahoo! invites young video makers to an “issue films” contest
Search engine company Yahoo! is inviting young video makers to post videos online to share their views and concerns on political or social subjects.
This content has been named Film Your Issue and Yahoo! is the exclusive online sponsor of this event.
The internet giant aims to get young adults involved in public dialogue. The videos created by submitters would be made available for public viewing at Yahoo!’s Jumpcut service. Rules are available on the contest’s own website.
Yahoo vice president of social media Jason Zajac spoke on this new development: “A generation of young, talented filmmakers is on the rise thanks to the explosion of online video. Video has the power to convey messages like no other medium. FYI, Yahoo and Jumpcut will empower these young adults to unleash their creative and civic passion on a wide range of social issues.”
The judges for this content include some high profile name like newsman Walter Cronkite, actor John Cusack, film-maker Peter Jackson, and Yahoo chief executive Terry Semel. FYI president HeathCliff Rothman added on this initiative: “FYI has taken this young generation’s medium of short film and user-generated content and is channeling it as a formidable platform to add their voice to the important public dialogue on pressing social issues.”
