Maruti Swift Diesel launch next week

I have been personally waiting for this particular launch since a long time. I went ahead and purchased the LXI edition of the car last year because the diesel versions were delayed a bit too much.

Now, it is more or less clear that Maruti is going to launch the diesel version of Suzuki Swift car next week in the Indian market.

We at TechWhack have already seen the company testing out a VDI model of Swift on Gurgaon roads sometime back. We can assume that the diesel versions would be labeled LDI, VDI and ZDI similar to the petrol variants.

Jagdish Khattar, MD, MUL spoke about this upcoming launch: “The firm was earlier importing engines, which was expensive. The firm has obtained diesel engine technology from Fiat and this has been incorporated into Suzuki Swift. The engine from Fiat meets Euro III and Euro IV emission standards.”

He added: “The popularity of diesel is increasing because of the price differential. We would not enter the diesel segment because of the price differential but because our product would be in demand even when the price differential was less.”

This car would compete with the upcoming Hyundai Getz Diesel. Perhaps GM could also launch a diesel version of their Chevrolet UVA car in this segment for some added competition.

Popularity: 5%
