Google planning to build a data center in North Carolina
Internet giant Google has said that they are planning to establish a data center in North Carolina. The company is considering spending as much as $600 million on this new project.
Google said that this upcoming “server farm” will eventually employ 210 people in the region.
It is good news for the region which has seen massive layoffs in the furniture and textile industries in the recent years.
North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley said in a statement on this new development: “This company will provide hundreds of good-paying, knowledge-based jobs that North Carolinas citizens want. It will help reinvigorate an area hard hit by the loss of furniture and textile jobs with 21st century opportunities.”
The State of North Carolina would give Google $4.8 million as part of a total incentives package with a potential net worth of more than $100 million.
