Sun Microsystems to offer Intel powered Servers

Server and Software company Sun Microsystems is rumored to have plans to start offering server products powered by Intel processors.

Intel is also now likely to endorse Solaris as a preferred operating system. An official announcement can come as early as today.

However, the market sources could not give out the financial aspects of this deal which is yet to be confirmed by the two companies.

This would be good news for Intel as they are fighting a tightly fought battle with AMD in the server platform microprocessor segment.

Sun in the recent past has relied exclusively on AMD to supply server chips based on the popular x86 micro architecture. Sun and AMD had entered into a partnership in 2003.
