European Union might regulate mobile roaming charges in the region
The GSM Association in Europe has said that the mobile service providers in the region would continue to protest against the government’s step to regulate roaming charges.
Germany along with the European Commission and the European Parliament are set to implement some regulations on these charges.
Germany is planning to push through a regulation which would cap wholesale prices and retain roaming prices customers pay for using their mobile phones in other EU countries.
The government aims to get this regulation approved before June this year. David Pringle, the GSM Association’s spokesman said: “There is a strong lobby against retail regulations. Most sensible politicians would see retail regulation only as a last resort. Most national markets in Europe have healthy competition with four operators competing for customers.”
The German government itself has plans to implement fixed pricing of €0.49 for outgoing calls and €0.25 for incoming calls.
