Tata’s Small Car on track
Tata Motors just recently started the construction work on the plant where they would be manufacturing their Rs. 1 lakh rupee car.
The company has stated that they are on track to roll out its small car in 2008 as scheduled despite the delays faced in starting the construction work.
Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant said in a statement on their progress: “The materials will soon start flowing in. We want to have the factory as early as possible. It is challenging; we have to see how best to make up for lost time. Though the degree of challenge has increased quite substantially, the organization is gearing up to overcome it.”
They have also started prototype testing of its small car. The design and the style of the car are also final and the technology has been frozen. Even the orders for the equipments required for the car have been made.
Tata further revealed that Italian automaker Fiat had shown interest in collaborating with it on the small car project and they have accepted their offer. Interestingly, Fiat is also collaborating with Suzuki for the diesel engines for their cars.
